Top soccer players awarded

“The aim of the awards ceremony was to motivate and encourage the young players to keep playing and practising to become better players."

KwaThema – The Dream Team Football Club held its first awards ceremony on Friday.

The event was to acknowledge the hard work and discipline some of the players have been displaying throughout the year.

Coach Vusi Radinne says they are working with developing young players.

“The aim of the award ceremony was to motivate and encourage the young players to keep playing and practising to become better players.

“We want young people to be active in sports and keep busy during their free time.

“We also want to groom them to excel in different sporting codes so they are be able to progress to the national teams in the near future,” he says.

Vusi says it pains him to see young people roaming the streets and abusing drugs because they don’t have anything to do.

Kutlwano’s head of the social welfare committee, Sello Makete, decided to form the team to groom young people in the under 13 and 15 categories.

“We will be introducing a netball team next year.

“We appreciate the help and support from the community members who have been with us since we started at the beginning of this year,” he says.

“The team requested 50 medals from the organisation and we saw fit to support and contribute to the positive initiative.

“It is our objective to try and alleviate poverty within the community and to assist where we can.

“We believe in the positive role the team is playing in removing the kids from the streets who are abusing drugs and want to prevent teenage pregnancies by keeping them busy after school.

“We are proud of the team and will continue supporting them whenever we can,” he says.
