Golfers share love with learners

“We should all go back to the basic teaching that it takes a village to raise a child."

KwaThema – Golfers from Positive Golfers Club shared their love for the community when they donated school uniforms to 34 learners from Vuyani Primary School recently.

They hosted a fundraising golf day at the Royal Oak Country Club on September 3 to raise funds for the good deed.

“It pained me to see some of the learners dressed in worn-out uniforms. Some uniforms were even torn and dirty,” club secretary Thandi Mabele says.

“I decided to request from the members to donate funds towards buying uniforms for some of the learners.

“They decided to host a fundraising event and invited different companies to donate funds,” she says.

Thandi says they are happy they were able to change the life of more children through the donation.

“Through the sponsors we were able to attract official sponsors who made the donation possible.

“We are hoping to attract more sponsors to collect more school uniforms for next year and cater for other schools in the area,” she says.

Thandi says they are calling on residents who are interested in growing the initiative to come forward.

“We should all go back to the basic teaching that it takes a village to raise a child.

“It is our responsibility to help the teachers and learners to make learning easier and comfortable,” she says.
