Workshop to help victims

“I know how it feels not to have anyone who is ready to listen to you when you need them the most".

KwaThema- Survivors of trauma, rape and domestic violence attended a three-day workshop on coaching of survivors held at Church of England in KwaThema from Thursday to Saturday.

Professionals who include life coaches, psychologists and counselors attended and shared their expertise to help the survivors deal with their challenges.

Workshop organiser Nhlanhla Ndaba says through her life experiences and challenges she has gone through she decided to host the quarterly workshops.

“The workshop was aimed at giving parents, spouses and especially those who are affected and who went through the trauma a platform to voice their challenges.

“We have a lot of people who are depressed after going through traumatic experiences.

“They often don’t have people to offer them a listening ear or when they do they are told to snap out of it.

“The survivors now know through the testimonies which were shared by others they are not alone,” she says.

Nhlanhla says they have also identified some of the challenges and areas which need to be addressed.

“We now have a database of the people who need a specific type of help and where to direct them.

“They are armed with information about the different organisations available they can seek help from,” she says.

Pastor Meisie Nong says: “Because I am a survivor of trauma and rape I understand some of the challenges victims are going through.

“I know how it feels not to have anyone who is ready to listen to you when you need them the most.

“We are calling to all the survivors to stand up and seek help.

“It warms my heart that the survivors in Kwatsaduza came out in numbers to attend the workshop and are ready to face and fight for their recovery,” she says.
