School promotes reading in a fun way

“The learners, teachers and other support staff were given an opportunity to read their favorite books."

Duduza – As part of Literacy Month, the teachers at Roseview Primary School dressed in their favourite cartoon, action hero or heroine clothes.

September is literacy month during which people are encouraged to pick up a book and read.

Busisiwe Ntshangase says the event was aimed at promoting active reading in the school through a series of events which started in the first week of September.

“The learners were entertained by the teachers while reading.

“The learners, teachers and other support staff were given an opportunity to read their favourite books.

“We are hoping all learners will adopt the culture of reading.

“We are calling on parents to also read to their children from a very young age. Instead of buying them toys they must buy them educational toys.

“Reading must be fun and will also help them with their studies in the long run because studying would not feel like a chore to them,” she says.
