Murder accused defence team confident about outstanding DNA results #ThembisileYende

“The results may reveal new suspects linked to the case but we will only know when the results become available."

The defence team for murder accused David Ngwenya, who is charged with the premeditated murder of Thembisile Yende (30), is confident in the outstanding DNA results.

The 44-year old Eskom technician was arrested on May 15 in Carltonville, on the West Rand.

During a court hearing at Springs Magistrate’s Court on Monday, Advocate Zola Majavu said the DNA results will help clear the accused of the murder.

“The results may reveal new suspects linked to the case, but we will only know when the results become available.

“We will apply for another bail application should the DNA come out negative, clearing the accused’s name.

“The law allows us to approach the court should there be new evidence that proves him innocent.

“There is also a chance that the case can be struck off the court roll. We strongly believe his name will be cleared.”

The state requested the case be postponed until November 15 for further investigations.

Yende’s body was found 13 days after she was reported missing by her family.

Her body was discovered in her work storeroom at the Pietersboth Eskom substation in Springs after her colleagues picked up a bad smell coming from the room.

Preliminary postmortem results revealed she had sustained head injuries and died of suffocation and had been injected with a drug.
