Friends hijacked while sitting in a car

“We are urging the motorists to avoid parking their vehicles on the road while sitting inside of them, as this may cause them to be easily targeted by criminals".

KwaThema- A friend’s visit turned into a horror when two armed men approached them on Saturday while they were sitting in a car.

It is alleged the 34-year-old complainant was sitting inside a blue and grey vehicle, with registration number FV 54 FF GP, which they had parked at More Street in Phomolo Section.

KwaThema police spokesperson, Capt Thabo Sibuyi, says it is alleged the complainant was sitting in the back seat of the vehicle while his friend was sitting behind the steering wheel.

“The two were however startled when a duo came their way.

“One of them cocked a firearm and pointed it at the driver as he stood on the passenger side.

“His accomplice, on the other hand, went to the driver’s door, opened it and pulled the friend out of the vehicle.

“The other suspect then went to the back seat and pointed the firearm at the complainant and told him not to move,” he explains.

Sibuyi says the suspects searched and robbed the man of his cellphone worth R15 000 and also threw him out.

“Thereafter the men got into the car and drove off in the vehicle,” he says.

Sibuyi confirms that a case of hijacking is being investigated by KwaThema police.

Anyone with any information about this vehicle can contact KwaThema detectives on 011 812 4600.

“We are urging motorists to avoid parking their vehicles on the side of the road while sitting inside as this may cause them to be easily targeted by criminals.

“Motorists should rather park their vehicles inside a yard where a gate can be locked. This will ensure they are safer,” he concluded.
