TAC takes stand against violence

Treatment Action Campaign has organised a march to proclaim their stand against violence against women.

Tsakane – Treatment Action Campaign has organised a march to proclaim their stand against violence against women.

Fanyana Mahlangu, deputy chairperson of the Tsakane branch, says they want to send a message to perpetrators that their actions will not be tolerated.

“We want to engage good men in society to stand up against this violence,” he explains.

The organisation invites all faith-based organisations, traditional healers and leaders, government departments and the community at large, to participate.

“The march is called ‘Women War March’ because enough is enough.

“Women need to come together.”

He believes the support of men will help women achieve their goal of having peace in the community.

The procession to Tsakane Police Station – where they will hand over a memorandum of grievances – will leave Pholosong Hospital on July 15, at 9am.

“We are questioning police visibility and effectiveness.

“There are so many cases that have gone cold because they don’t follow up,” he adds.

He believes that they need to put pressure on the system to produce the results that are expected.

“We will continue to advocate, monitor and evaluate.”

Fanyana says that women are like flowers that need to be taken care of by everyone who benefits from their beauty.

“Most households will not stand without the strength of a woman because women keep us afloat.

“It is unfair that our mothers and daughters cannot even go to the shops on their own.”
