67 minutes fun run/walk to raise funds for school bus

67 minutes fun run/walk to raise funds for the children of Leth'ukhanya Care Centre.

Tsakane – Leth’kukhanya Care Centre needs your help to raise funds through the 67 minutes fun run/walk which will be hosted on June 23 at the Tsakane Stadium.

The proceeds will go towards the scholar bus transport for the children.

The centre, which was formed three years ago, is home to six children who attend school 1h30 min away from the home.

Centre manager, Sphiwe Mnisi, says because there are no schools closer to the centre so the children are forced to walk to the nearest school.

“We fear for their safety especially with the recent kidnapping and killings of young women in the community.

“We are hoping to raise as many funds as possible so that we will also be able to upgrade the security and afford to give our volunteers incentives,” she says.

Simphiwe says children will donate R20 while adults will contribute R50 to participate in the fun day extravaganza.

“Those who are not able to attend can adopt a child by paying for their ticket.

“They can join the event later. We will also be hosting small fundraising markets with food, clothes and more.

“We are calling to everyone to attend and support the initiative because it is not only for the benefit of the centre but also the community.

The children in the centre will also be able to interact with those in the community and not feel disconnected to the outside world,” she says.

Simphiwe says the centre is a home to children who are vulnerable and orphaned from and around Tsakane.

Although they’ve tried for years to register the centre formally, they are happy to announce that they are now in the final leg of successfully registering the centre as a care centre.

“In this way, we will be able to absorb more children who we now are forced to turn them down,” she says.
