CPF members donate food parcels to disability centre

Local CPF members took off time from their patrolling schedule to donate food parcels to the disabled community of Impumelelo Self Help Centre.

KwaThema – The members of the Community Policing Forum (CPF) recently donated food parcels and clothing to the disabled people at Impumelelo Self Help Centre.

The centre receives government funding only once every three years and they are forced to fend for themselves when the funds have become depleted.

The chairperson of the CPF, Arles Baloyi, says they were touched by the living conditions in the centre.

“We decided to invite community members to donate anything that would help make their lives better.

“We are happy the residents responded positively and we were able to achieve our mission.

Arles says they are also calling on community members who can volunteer their services.

Their tiles need renewing and electricians are needed to rewire the building.

“The building is in a poor state and this might put their lives in danger.

“We are also calling on business people to donate paints and other building materials.

“It would be a good gesture if we all joined hands and helped make the building a home again,” he says.

Centre manager Sharon Modisatsile says they are very happy with the help of the community, especially the CPF.

“We have seven people who are staying in the centre daily and 84 out-patients.

“We offer outreach programmes in KwaThema, Duduza and surrounding areas.

“We are also looking to expand to other areas.

“We would like to offer skills training and open a day care centre for the disabled,” she says.
