Growing number of violence against women and children addressed

Men in church say enough is enough against the brutal killings of women.

Tsakane – World Outreach Centre hosted their first annual meeting to address men and women at CWC church last Saturday.

The event was hosted after they identified the growing number of violence against women and children in the area.

Tsakane police spokeswoman, Sargent Lerato Mngomezulu, says they take the issue of women and child abuse very seriously.

“We are concerned about the growing number of the brutal abuse against women and children.

“We are calling on the community to join hands in fighting this problem.

“Those in abusive relationships must report the matter to the police and seek the help of a social worker.

“We can only eliminate the killings of women through speaking out and not protecting the perpetrators,” she says

Mngomezulu says that she is happy that the event gave men the platform to speak out about the abuse.

“They were also able to come up with solutions and to be each one’s brother’s keeper,” she says.

Event organiser, Bongani Lubisi: “We engaged with men and women to establish some of the reasons behind some of these actions. We are saying that we have heard the cries of the females in our lives.

“We are ready to help each other as men to turn around our actions,” he says.

Bongani says he is happy that the men actively supported and participated in the session.

“ We know that there are people within the church who are abused but don’t have a platform to express these emotions.

“We are saying that we are here for men who are dealing with anger.

“We are ready to listen and give a shoulder to cry on and help come up with solutions.

“No one will judge the other but we are saying as brothers in crime we are ready to help fight this behaviour,” he says.
