Help for substance abuse addiction

Drug addicts are encouraged to come forward to get help.

KwaTheam – St Siya Mission of Faith is calling on young people who are addicted to drugs and ready to fight the addiction to come forward.

In statistics that were conducted by the organisation in 2016, 15 % of South Africans have a drug problem.

Siviwe Makaula says the centre has also identified that unemployment, which is 26.6%, might be the cause of the growing addiction rates.

“The Saint Siya ‘Save a life’ programme is aimed at saving and changing lives of drug addicts in providing them with a purpose and motive to stay clean and contribute positively to society, “ he says.

Siviwe says the initiative also aims to provide jobs and integrate the young people back into the community.

“They will receive skills to help them to be employable and placements facilitated by us.

“Upon enrollment, we identify an NGO that the addict will report to on a daily basis.

“This will help spark the feeling of self-worth and every Sunday they will report to the nearest church until they are ready to go to a rehab centre.

“When the addict is ready he will be assigned to rehab and be taught how to stay clean from drugs.

“After completion of rehabilitation and skills training the addict will be placed into an employment programme,” he says.

Siviwe says the applicant has to be 18 years and older and a South African citizen.

“They must also be in possession of a South African ID,” he says.
