Help to feed learners a meal every day

KwaThema – Pastor Margeret Cimba, the founder of Thandolwenkosi Daycare, provides learners at Lefa Ifa Secondary School with a filling meal every Friday, but her desire is to feed the children every day.

Mam Sthandwa (beloved), as she is affectionately known to the learners, has been helping feed the children since 2014.

“Unlike many others in KwaThema, the school does not have a feeding scheme so I knew in my heart I have to do this for the children,” Margeret says.

Twins Qhanani and Nande Diko (17) say they look forward to Fridays because they know Mam Sthandwa will be waiting for them with a satisfying meal.

“I really wish she would be here every day of the week because we usually have nothing to eat during the day,” adds Nande.

Margeret uses her own resources to buy and make the food and her sister, Sophie Manzini, helps her cook.

While she does receive donations from the public, these are not consistent.

“A supermarket donates bread rolls and another business also offers me some assistance, but I mostly fund the project myself.”

Margeret says her desire is to run the feeding scheme every day of the week.

“There is a lot to be done.

“Some of the learners don’t even have proper school uniforms.

“My heart is already there.

“I really just need more funds to do it.”

Thabitha Maliki (15) explains she does not always have pocket money and Mam Sthandwa’s meals help her get through the week.

“I am grateful she does this for us and cares so much about us.”
