Kaizer Chiefs Supporters celebrate Freedom Day with the needy

Tsakane - Ekurhuleni Kaizer Chiefs Supporters Club celebrated Freedom Day with the children at Lord Is My Provider Organisation Home.

They donated a new washing machine, clothes and groceries.

The regional chairman, Jennet Mahlangu, says freedom comes with responsibility and they decided to celebrate theirs by sharing love with the children.

“We learned that the centre is still struggling to attract financial support and relies on donations.

“They didn’t have a washing machine for the 14 children and they washed with their hands.

“We decided as part of our social responsibility initiative to raise funds towards a washing machine, clothes and curtains,” she says.

The founder of the centre, Thoko Ngwenya, says the centre was established nine years ago.

“I realised that there were many children in the area who were orphaned or abused and ended up on the streets.

“I decided to turn my residential home into a centre after years of trying to find a stand with no success.

“It has not been an easy journey because we don’t receive any financial support apart from donations from the concerned community members.

“I often have to dig deep into my pocket to make sure that the children don’t go to bed on an empty stomach,” she says.

Thoko says she is grateful for the help of the community and the donation by Kaizer Chiefs Supporters Club.

“We accepted all the help that we can get to help improve the lives of the disadvantaged children.

“We want them to feel loved and receive all the basic needs and support that they need to become model citizens,” she says.
