Getting into business

KwaThema - Nkosinathi Zwane (22), a social entrepreneur, believes that many people have good ideas for creating wealth but do not know how to put them into action.

Zwane says that many of his peers have what it takes to make it big, and with the little experience he has, he is helping educate them and bridge the gap.

“The government encourages us to start small businesses, instead of just wanting to be employed by other people.

“And I have found the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) to be very helpful – we even facilitated a few workshops with them in KwaThema,” explains Zwane.

He says that it is very important to get your documentation in order and to avoid anything that will make you come across as unprofessional to the next person.

“Respect time, if you want to be taken seriously.”

Zwane also believes that when you are being offered any assistance, it is your responsibility to create a good impression.

“Dress neatly and speak with confidence,” he adds.

Although many people wait to get all the funding they need before they actually start their business, Zwane believes this is a mistake. He says that people should work with what they have, and then grow their businesses as they get more resources.

“Start with what you have,” he says.

Also, there is a lot to be learned from socialising with people who have similar interests.

“Leave your comfort zone, go to seminars and network,” he adds.

Zwane insists that with passion and discipline, any budding entrepreneur can make it through the most difficult seasons in business.
