Tsakane- Community members were engaged and educated recently about crime patterns affecting them at a meeting co-ordinated by members of the EMPD and the SAPS.

Tsakane police spokesperson, Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu, says the meeting was one of regular meetings held by sector managers of Tsakane.

“The aim of these meetings is to sensitise the community about crimes that are affecting them.

“We also aim to come up with new ways of reducing those crimes as well as educating residents about what services to expert from the police and what the role of community members is in reducing crime,”she says.

Mngomezulu says that in the JE Malepe block the community is experiencing a high rate of house breaking and theft.

“We are calling on residents to report any crimes to the police.

“This will help us in tracking the suspects down and removing them from the streets.

“We will never win the fight against crime without the help of the community.

“But community members should not take the law into their own hands,” she says.
