Mrs SA semi-finalist wants to empower women

Wife and mother of two, Simone Myburgh (34), from Geluksdal, has made it into the top 100 semi-finals for the Mrs South Africa pageant.

On April 28, the top 25 finalists will be announced and the finals will then be held in October.

“When I was young, I had a dream of entering the Miss South Africa competition, but life happened and my dream never materialised so I let it slide,” says Simone.

She says she never knew there was a Mrs South Africa competition but, after hearing the current Mrs SA winner talking on the radio in the beginning of the year, she realised this was her second chance of achieving her dream.

“I immediately started researching the competition and knew I just had to enter.

“This is going to be my year.”

Simone completed her final year of marketing management last year and received her diploma, passing with a distinction.

“When you reach my age, you don’t think of these kinds of things, you think your time is over and you just keep looking forward and be the best mother and wife you can be.

“But when life throws second chances, I’m definitely not going to let it pass me by again.”

Simone’s husband, Enver (42) and her two sons, Sage (13) and Danté (9) support their wife and mother and are proud of her decision.

Her goal as a semi-finalist is to bring about a feeding scheme with the help of her husband, for the Geluksdal Primary School.

She explains that the group of 100 semi-finalists are very close and have formed what they call a “sisterhood” to empower each other.

“It’s not about breaking each other down and seeing them as competition, but encouraging, inspiring and drawing strength from each other.

“We even have a WhatsApp group where we chat to each other almost every day.

“This is an opportunity to educate, not about being a supermodel, but about empowering women.”
