Reviving the legacy of Mondy Motloung

Duduza – Mondy Motloung Foundation hosted a consultation breakfast to revive the legacy of struggle hero, Mondy Motloung.

The breakfast took place at the Duduza Church Hall last Friday where the foundation met with their stakeholders, potential partners and the community to introduce and consult with the community about the plans the foundation hopes to carry out going forward.

The main aim of the foundation is to see to it that development takes place in the community where Motloung once lived.

Through the foundation various projects will be carried out to better the lives of the community of Duduza.

According to Saki Kekane, a member of the organisation, as a way to continue the legacy of Motloung who died fighting for the liberation of the people of South Africa, they have outlined a number of programmes to help the underprivileged and also develop the community of Duduza with the help of local business people and stakeholders.

“One of the projects that we will be doing is to erect school halls in schools in Duduza because the schools were built during the apartheid era and none of them boast halls.

“We will host a family fun day for Early Childhood Centre where we will distribute toys to the children, donate 58 wheelchairs to celebrate disability month in November and also the foundation will raise funds to build Motloung’s mother a house.

“To tell the correct narrative of the fallen hero, we will identify 100 students from the community who will research and write essays and debate about the life of Motloung, the best student will be granted the opportunity to visit the speaker of parliament in Cape Town,” explains Kekane.

He further states that they have many planned projects to roll-out and with the help of professionals and local business owners they can make a difference.

At the end of the breakfast, scouts and drum majorettes from James Nkosi Primary School entertained guests who attended the event.
