A donation for a good cause

KwaThema – Gogo Magdalene Khoza (69) from Extension Five in KwaThema will now be able to move around her RDP home and enjoy days outside in the sun.

This follows a donation made by a local contractor for her wheelchair, enlarged doorways and a ramp to make her mobility in her yard and home easier.

Khoza, who suffers from arthritis, can no longer walk nor sit up straight and is bedridden.

According to Margret Mabena, a member of the ANC branch executive committee, after learning of Khoza’s situation she and Prudence Yende, a community development worker, embarked on getting the gogo the much-needed help.

“Yende ensured the senior citizen received a wheelchair which suits her body weight and myself and other community leaders approached Alfa Zim to help with making the necessary adjustments in Khoza’s home to enable her mobility,” she explains.

The wheelchair was designed to accommodate Khoza’s size; so the chair proved to be too big to be mobile inside the house probing for doorways to be extended.

Khoza says she hasn’t been outside since last year July when she fell extremely ill and could no longer walk.

Her family are the ones taking care of her and making sure she is comfortable and clean on a daily basis.

“I’m blessed to have such a loving family who ensure that I’m well looked after, may God bless them.

“I also thank all the people who made sure I got a wheelchair, I’m overwhelmed and very thankful for their gestures,” she adds.
