Reviving music in Kwatsaduza

KwaThema – Local musicians, Lesedi Ntsane and Mduduzi Nqwabe, call on instrumentalists and vocalists from around Kwatsaduza and Daveyton to come forward.

The two musicians say they have a vision to form three orchestra ensembles in the community to promote music and revive the legacy of great music KwaThema once use to be known for.

Ntsane, a professional musician based in New York, says, since he grew up in KwaThema and learnt his first instrument there, he wants to give back and see locals benefit from his knowledge and expertise.

“My grandfather used to be part of the Merry Makers band, which was huge in KwaThema back in the 50s, so as a way to honour him, myself and Nqwabe are calling all artists interested in being part of this project,” he says.

The three ensembles will be divided into age groups of three, u/12, u/17 and open, there will not be any age restrictions thereafter.

All interested people are invited for a meeting on September, 23 to take place at 5pm, at Monametse Street, Phomolo Secetion, KwaThema.

For more information contact Nqwabe on 083 192 4440 or Ntsane on 081 073 5741.
