Karatekas move up the ladder

Tsakane – The Bufoka Shotokan Karate Club hosted a grading ceremony for young karate participants recently.

The festivities were conducted at the Mangosuthu Primary School in Tsakane to promote various members from the club from one level to the next.

Instructors from other karate clubs in the community were present to help with the grading process.

Tsakane sensei Mandla Mnisi explains the importance of the graduation ceremony as a way of testing what the students have learnt and to boost their confidence in the sport.

“We are very happy to see that our students have taken the interest in the sport very seriously and we want to see them working towards their black belts,” he says.

Six of the club’s members, ages seven to 16 years old, graded from white to purple belts.

Mnisi further states that as a young karate club they are happy to see their students thriving in the sport and showing their capabilities.

“We would like to see more young people coming to join karate as it doesn’t only give physical training but also helps with discipline and mental training,” he adds.
