Three houses torched

Tsakane - Around midday on Saturday, three houses were extensively damaged after being torched, allegedly by members of the RAF3 gang.

It is believed the gang members committed this crime as they were avenging the death of one of their gang members.

“Information received by the law enforcers was that the gang had broken into one of the houses in Tsakane.

“The owner, however, with the help of friends, was able to chase the gang members, caught one of the them and allegedly assaulted him so severely that he died.

“In vengeful fury, the RAF3 gang members then attacked and torched the three houses,” says EMPD spokesman Wilfred Kgasago.

The torched houses are situated in Harebe Street, Lwamondo Street and Mashinini Street, respectively.

Kgasago adds that as soon as the reports of the arson were received, the EMPD First Responder (FRU), the EMPD Tracing Units and the members of SAPS reacted.

“The law enforcement officers were able to arrest six suspects, one woman and five men (between 16 and 24 years old) who were found in possession of an assortment of weapons.

“These weapons included pangas, knives, and garden equipment in the form of forks and spades,” he says.

The arrested suspects were detained at Tsakane Police Station on charges of public violence.

A docket of arson was also registered with investigations under way to identify and locate those responsible.

The suspects are expected to soon appear in the Tsakane Magistrate’s Court.
