Association search for board members

Kwatsaduza – The Masihlanganeni Association for People with Disabilities is looking for capable volunteers from the community to serve on its board.

According to the centre manager, Simon Dube, the organisation was started in 1999 and officially registered as an NPO in 2003.

It deals with human services and has a home-based care project catering for 15 beneficiaries.

“In addition to that, we have a protective workshop where there are 50 beneficiaries who manufacture detergents, nappies and leather products, as well as doing food gardening and weaving,” he explains.

Dube says people who are interested in applying to become board members should be from the Tsakane and Duduza communities.

And, these volunteers should have knowledge or skills that can add value to the organisation, such as, but not limited to legal knowledge, fund-raising, financial management and project management skills.

They should also have development, managerial and human resource management abilities, and knowledge of the community.

Further, it is advisable that they have previous experience in managing a funded community structure, should not hold or be a public representative, must have at least Grade 12 and at least five years experience in the relevant sector (e.g. older persons, child poverty alleviation, etc).

“We are looking for people who do not have a criminal record, have a good credit record and a sound mind.

“Ideally, in the end, when we select the final seven, all the above skills, knowledge and attributes should be represented on the board,” Dube says.

Nomination forms can be obtained at the Duduza Resource Centre ,at the Masihalanganeni Association, in Room Six, between 8.30am to 4pm.

Forms should be accompanied by CVs and proof of qualifications, and these must be submitted at the Duduza Customer Care Centre, Duduza Police Station or at the Duduza Resource Centre ballot boxes.

Interested candidates can start applying from August 4 to 25.

“Kindly note that this is voluntary work, therefore there is no remuneration to be obtained,” Dube emphasises.
