The incident occurred at about 8.20pm; however, since the vehicle tracking system was activated, the EMPD, SAPS and officers from the tracking company were able to react and pursue the vehicle.
EMPD spokesman, Wilfred Kgasago says at about 8.40pm the perpetrators got cold feet and abandoned the red golf at the intersection of Nkosi and Continental streets.
“Eyewitnesses gave information that the three criminals jumped into a getaway vehicle that sped off after they had gotten out of the stolen vehicle.
“The suspects got away with the victims’ wallets and cellphones.
“A case of car hijacking was reported at KwaThema Police Station after the forensics team had conducted formalities on the vehicle,” says Kgasago.
He adds investigations are under way to apprehend the culprits.
