Be aware of latest scam

Local police are urging all people who shop in the Springs CBD and the surrounding area to be cautious when applying for loans.

Spokesman of the Springs police, Capt Johannes Ramphora says they have recently discovered a new scam taking place which locals need be aware of.

“If you have made a loan application be aware of people who may call you stating that you need to confirm you particulars, because when you have done this, the people responsible for this scam will tell you to switch off your phone and take out the battery for three hours.

“When you put it back, you might get a notification stating that your SIM card had not been RICA registered and by the time you realise it, money from your account will have been taken, so don’t fall into the trap,” warns Ramphora.

He adds that so far three people opened such cases at the Springs Police Station.
