Locals benefit in feeding scheme

Duduza - Christ Ambassadors Church in Duduza has a feeding scheme in the community.

The feeding scheme has been running for four months and ensures that community members and local learners receive a meal every Tuesday afternoon at the church in Mayibuye Street in Bluegum View.

Bishop Andile ‘Madiba’ Tila from the church explains that there are far too many people in the community facing poverty and sleeping on empty stomachs every day.

The scheme started as a church initiative where the church gives members lunch every Sunday after church. That’s when they sought to also give to the community at large.

“Our church is situated right opposite a school and many learners come from impoverished households and the community of Bluegum is facing high unemployment and drug abuse rate.

“We as a church saw the need to make a difference in which every little way possible so we try and help our fellow people,” says the bishop.

On a typical Tuesday the scheme feeds 100 or more people, including school learners.

Tila further says they need assistance from community members in whatever form, because more and more people are making their way to the church and they are battling to feed all of them.

“We fund this programme as church members and Mzaifani Ndunga, a member of the church and businessman has been financially assisting us.

“I urge anyone who can help even with volunteering their time to come and assist us, because it would be sad if this project died and many who rely on this meal can’t benefit any longer,” adds Tila.
