Zamani duo stand out at district level

KwaThema - Two Grade R learners from the Zamani Primary School have done it again, obtaining third position for the second time in a row in a science competition.

Gugulethu Sekati (5) and Nomfundo Thabethe (6) had first taken on other learners at their school and that is how they were selected to represent the school in the following round.

On May 11, the duo proceeded to participate at the Selpark Primary School against other young people from Circuit Three schools, of the Gauteng East District.

They came in third place and moved on to the district level, which was conducted at Brakpan Primary School last week Thursday and again they sneaked into third place.

Acting head of department for the foundation phase of the school, Nomvula Mokasi explains that the children created a waterfall of a rainbow by mixing primary colours to set secondary colours which is whats helped them to stand out.

She adds that the competition was for children of this grade to create any scientific project suitable for them.

“We are so thrilled that our two girls managed to perform exceptionally well at school, circuit and district level,” she says.

School principal Selby Nkosi adds that after all the challenges their school has faced in the past, they are happy to see such learners put them in a positive light.

“These learners have really done well for themselves and for us as a school because they managed to come out in third place twice.

“Since the competition ends at district level, what better way to end it than with them making it to the top three, beating even schools from town which are normally classified as better than our township schools?

“We are very proud of these learners as they have been a great example even to other children who are their seniors in the school, to always give of their best,” says Nkosi.
