‘Fixing cars is my life’ #MakingIt

Tsakane - Mario Nyoni's love of fixing cars has led him to running a prosperous small business.

Working as a mechanic in the Tsakane township, Nyoni is driven by the joy he gets when people see his good work and praise him for his good customer care and people skills.

He shares that even though it was not easy, he started working towards opening Starenza Business Auto Mechanics after about six years of helping to fix cars from his home.

“I used to help fix cars from a young age when I came back from school, as my family had taxis, and what began as just helping out is what caused my love of fixing cars to blossom.

“With only that experience to my name and no formal training, I have been able to do this for over 16 years and am still loving it,” he says.

Nyoni is proud of his work but says that he just deals with fixing engines and suspensions and does not touch the electrical side.

One of his guarantees is that he offers customers quality service and treats them well.

This, he says, has made him stand out from the rest and has people turning to him for help.

“My favourite part of the job is being able to help people, making their lives easier and working on big cars, though I don’t neglect the smaller ones when the opportunity presents itself.”

He says one of the challenges he faces is when people steal parts or tools from him.

“At times it becomes so bad that people even go to the extent of stealing tyres from my workplace, but this has not deterred me, as I always find ways of moving on and succeeding,” he says.

Starenza Business Auto Mechanics can be found at 41422 Tsakane, Extension 19, Mzimhlophe Street.
