Introducing boxing to locals

Tsakane – Boxing fans are invited to join in on a fun-filled tournament, to be hosted by the Bigger Walker Boxing Club ama Eagle, from Tsakane Extension 19, this Saturday.

The purpose of this initiative is to get locals interested in the sport and gather different clubs under one roof so that they can get to know each other.

There will be some educational elements, such as certain boxing techniques being taught to boxers present on the day.

“After seeing that some of the young people in our area did not have much to do, in 2014 I opened the club in Tsakane as a way of collecting them to do something positive, since I also grew up participating in the sport.

“So far the response has been great and we have now grown the number of boxers we have to 48 from various age groups.

“This shows that locals still have an interest in the sport, hence the tournament will be able to enhance that,” says founder and coach, Charles Mtshali.

He has invited boxing clubs from Tsakane and surrounding areas to attend the spectacle, which will be conducted this Saturday at the Duduza Multipurpose Centre from noon.

In October there will another development tournament, also in Tsakane.

Mtshali adds that all people wanting physical training or to join the club can contact him.

The club is looking for girls from 12 years old and boys and men from eight to 35 years old.

Practice is from Monday to Thursday, 5pm to 7pm.
