School uniforms donated

KwaThema - On Tuesday the Ekurhuleni Mayoral Committee donated 100 school uniforms to learners of Phelang LSEN School in KwaThema.

This is part of the Adopt-A-Child programme led by Ekurhuleni mayor, Clr Mondli Gungubele, who was absent due to other commitments.

Standing in for him was Doctor Xhakaza, MMC of water and energy.

The Adopt-A-Child programme kicked off on January 19 and has seen the mayor donate school uniforms to learners in schools around Ekurhuleni.

Xhakaza says as leaders of the community they are aware of the needs of children who come from less privileged backgrounds who can not afford to buy school uniforms.

“We have not forgotten about learners who have special needs, they also form part of our society, and learners who need assistance.

School principal, Tshepo Ledwaba, says he is grateful for the generous donation from the mayoral committee who took time to show care for the learners of the school who are marginalised and judged in the community.

“We are really happy to know our learners are not forgotten and being involved in such programmes encourages better learning for all children,” says Ledwaba.
