Clean City Neighbourhood Fridays underway

Kwatsaduza – The mayor of Ekurhuleni, Clr Mondli Gungubele kick-started the Clean City Neighbourhood Friday Campaign last week.

Government officials, organisations and community members brought along their cleaning equipment and tools and gathered at various venues including Duduza, at the corner of Selepe Street and Sonnerstraal Road at the water tower.

Tembisa and Thokoza also joined in the campaign to get the city clean.

This comes after every last Friday of the month was declared a “Clean City Neighbourhood Friday” in the City of Ekurhuleni by the mayor recently.

Ekurhuleni Metro spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, says Gungubele kick-started the campaign at the Sam Ntuli Stadium in Thokoza.

The campaign was lead by the mayor, together with the Clean City Ambassador Manaka Ranaka, and members of the community, to ensure Ekurhuleni is kept clean.

“On this day, the leadership of the city and its officials also joined hands with its citizens to clean neighbourhoods and clear the illegal dumping spots at identified hotspots throughout Ekurhuleni.

“The members of the 4 000 strong Clean City Brigade were also deployed throughout the city to execute activities such as litter picking, cleaning of wetland areas, rodent control and other cleaning activities.

“We encourage individuals, businesses and organisations to take part in these activities which will happen on every last Friday of the month, and are aimed at achieving the ideal of a Cleaner and Greener Ekurhuleni for the benefit of all citizens,” he says.
