A street floods in Tsakane

Tsakane – The heavy rain and hail that hit Gauteng on Monday afternoon resulted in the flooding of a street in Extension Eight.

Nyeleki Street is not tarred and has no stormwater drains.

After the rain, residents were unable to leave their homes or drive along the muddy and waterlogged street.

“Every time we have heavy rain, the street floods and we are unable to get out of our homes,” says resident Lerato Moloi.

Moloi further says they petitioned for the street to be tarred two months ago and have not received any response regarding their request.

“We are not happy that our request has fallen on deaf ears and now we have to deal with this problem,” she says.

Another resident, Sipho Maseko, complains that children struggle to cross the flooded street.

“We had to make a pathway using large bricks,” says Sipho.

Residents further claim that a municipal vehicle dumped pieces of asphalt in the street and left, not letting them know why.

“We are offended by the act of our municipality and councillor, who are well aware of the situation in the area, but have refused to attend to it with urgency,” says Maseko.
