WATCH: Church women restore hope to nyaope addicts

Duduza - Masihlangane Women's Prayer Group in Duduza held a prayer session for nyaope addicts on Thursday morning at Freedom Square in Nala Street.

The prayer group, which is made up of women from different churches from around Duduza, wants to restore hope and dignity to the many young people who are using the drug.

According to Pastor Teresa Nobunga, from the Shiloh Tabernacle Church, these youngsters are judged by the community whereas they need to be shown love and offered help.

“As women and mothers of the community, we want to show the youth that we care about them and only want the best for our community,” says Nobungu.

She further says that the high substance abuse in the community is alarming, which compelled them to pray and involve the nyaope addicts.

Local pastors were also asked to be part of the session.

A 30-year-old nyaope addict, Tebogo Tsotetsi , says he desperately wants to stop taking the drug, but experiences excruciating stomach cramp if he doesn’t.

“I want to change my life and continue with my studies, I started abusing nyaope when I couldn’t afford to pay for my studies and had to come back home from university,” he says.

Tsotetsi believes the prayer session will motivate him to stay strong and is hopeful he will be free of the drug one day.

Food was served and clothes were donated to those in attendance.
