Car licence renewal has never been easier

Kwatsaduza - The Ekurhuleni Metro has opened drive-through centres for renewing car licence discs.

“It’s easy to renew,” says Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro.

“If you received a renewal notification in the post, then you are good to go, if not, then you will need to complete and sign a green Application for Renewal of Motor Vehicle Licence (ALV) form,” he says.

It is advised that you check with the cashier at the licence desk if the postal address on the system is correct, if not, then change it.

The ALV form includes a section for change of address.

Note that you will need to have your ID on hand when renewing your licence and if a third party is doing this on your behalf, they will need a letter of permission from the owner of the vehicle and the IDs of both parties.

If you own more than one vehicle and one of the licences has expired, you will not be able to renew the licences until all are up to date.

The centres are:

n KwaThema: corner of Moshoeshoe and Chaka streets

n Duduza: 3001/12 Nala Street

n Katlehong : 9098 Masakhane Street, Admin Block

n Bedfordview: 46 Nicole Road

n Kempton Park: Long Street

The centres are open Mondays to Fridays between 8am and 3pm.
