A new primary school for Langaville

Tsakane – A new school is underway for learners of Menzi Primary School, in Lanagaville, who are currently using zinc containers as classrooms.

According to the community liaison officer (CLO) of the project, Jerry Monaheng, construction started in February, this year, and will be completed in June, next year.

“We apologise to the community for the delays we have encountered since the beginning of the project, but all is in order now and we will be continuing as planned,” says Monaheng.

He explains that they experienced some delays after engineers and technicians found that the site wasn’t big enough for all the facilities they want to include within the school, so there had to be some changes to the plan. The operation is, however, now back on track.

The school is said to contain nine blocks, including an administration centre and a hall.

Monaheng says they will employ locals to work on the site as they proceed with the construction.

“Three contractors are appointed on site, two of whom are sub-contractors; this was done to speed up the process,” he explains.

Ward Clr Mtumeleni Ndita says they are aware of the high employment expectations of the community and they will ensure that locals benefit from the project.

“This is not a service delivery project only, we want the community to also benefit from the school that is built for their children,” says Ndita.
