Religious group prays for seniors at the Tsakane Old Age Home

Tsakane – Women from the Free Apostolic Church in Zion of South Africa visited seniors at the Tsakane Old Age Home over the weekend.

Five branches of the church, namely Tsakane, Soweto, Mpumalanga, Newcastle and Bergville, visited the home to donate goods, spend time with the seniors and to give encouragement and love to the elderly residents and staff members.

“Annually we decide on projects we want to embark on, and this time around we decided to bring some donations along.

“We are also doing this for the community and to show appreciation for the caregivers looking after our elders,” says Phumzile Sehloho from the Soweto branch.

Nthabiseng Sigasa, from Tsakane, says through this they hope the seniors will know that they are still loved, even though they are living in an old age home.

The women sang to the elderly, shared scriptures and some words of encouragement and prayed with the elderly residents.

“A lot of people don’t care for our elderly and they forget our seniors need to know they are still loved even by people from the community who are not their blood relatives.

“We hope the staff here will also continue to love and care for them as they are still a part of our communities and are still important to us,” says Sibongile Tshabalala from Tsakane.

Kate Nkosi, chairperson of the five branches, added that it is important to show love to the elderly and to strengthen the caregivers who work with them so they can continue to be strong, patient and loving.

She thanked the staff for all they do.
