Locals encouraged to support and appreciate the role of teachers

Kwatsaduza - As the globe celebrated World Teacher's Day on October 5, the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) joined in to wish all teachers in the province, and the rest of the world, a happy day.

“As we celebrate with the world, we remember the role our teachers play in the shaping of young people so that they are able to become leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals in different industries.

“The purpose of this day is to encourage support for our teachers and to make sure that we create awareness, understanding and appreciation for the contribution these individuals make in our schools and societies,” says GDE spokeswoman, Phumla Sekhonyane.

She says that teachers don’t just focus on the education of children in the classrooms, but at times they end up having to play the role of being parents, doctors and social workers, among other things, for the well-being of children.

“The department encourages everyone in the country to give continuous appreciation and support to these teachers in our country who play an important role in the shaping of young minds so that they become better leaders tomorrow,” says Sekhonyane.
