Young karateka shows potential

KwaThema - Karateka Nqobile Mpepuka (12) took part at the United World Karate Federation of South Africa All Styles National Tournament in Kuilsriver in Cape Town last Saturday.

It was the first time the young karateka from KwaThema took part in such a large tournament with participants from around the country.

He made it to the quarter finals.

Micheal Cindi (61), Mpepuka’s karate instructor, is proud of the young boy as it was his first time competing on a national level and he managed to get to the quarter finals.

“He has proven to me that he is capable of fighting in such big tournaments and I see him going further next year,” says Cindi.

At the provincial tournament held in Johannesburg earlier this month, Mpepuka took first position in two categories, Koshiki and Kyoshikai.

Cindi adds they will be training intensely with Mpepuka so he is more prepared and knows what to focus on.
