Vita Nova is raising funds with classic concerts

The concert was held at the KwaThema Central Methodist Church on Saturday, July 18.

Five choirs, a pianist and nine soloists performed on stage to entertain the crowd and raise much needed funds for Vita Nova.

This fundraising initiative was initiated after the Springs Advertiser reported that the centre was struggling financially.

One of the event organisers, Tim Manana said they saw the need to intervene and help Vita Nova raise funds to ensure that the centre does not close.

“I believe that it is the responsibility of the community to help centres when they need help,” said Manana.

He said the organisers hope to raise R1-million for Vita Nova through the sale of stickers which will soon be available in all the supermarkets and tuckshops around Kwatsaduza. The stickers, with an appealing message to help Vita Nova, will be available for R5 each.

Manana encourages the community to stand up and do something to ensure that the centre remains open.

Lucas Sepenyana from Artistic Chorale said his choir felt that they also needed to help the centre. Sepenyana said that the choir also forms part of the community and therefore will continue to be part of the concerts aimed at raising funds for the centre.

Director of Vita Nova, Michelle Immelman, could not hide her excitement about what the event organisers are doing to help the centre.

She said that the centre is currently looking after 110 people who need 24 hour care and is struggling to meet all their needs.

“Amongst other things we are in need of nappies, food and clothes to ensure the comfort of those we look after at the centre,” said Immelman.
