Duduza- After years of waiting for power, John Dube residents finally have electricity in their homes.

On Wednesday evening, Ekurhuleni mayor Clr Mondli Gungubele visited the area to mark the official completion of the electrification project in John Dube.

Gungubele expressed his gratitude to the residents for being patient while the electricity was being installed.

The entire project, which comprises the electrification of 1269 houses and 221 street lights, reportedly cost R25.7-million.

Twenty five local people were employed as labourers in the project.

Resident Nolubabalo Ntsundu (48) is happy the project is over and that their community will be like others in Kwatsaduza.

“We are happy as residents that the we were involved from the beginning to the end of this electricity project,” says Ntsundu.

Ward councillor Tiny Mabena and other officials pleaded with the community to report cable theft and illegal connections.

Residents who experience electricity faults or have any other complaints can report them to the Duduza Customer Care Centre.
