Three hijacked by fake policemen

Payneville - Four men, who pretended to be police officers, hijacked a Toyota Quantum on Saturday.

The Quantum’s occupants – the driver and the two passengers – were travelling along Mabhokobhoko Street in Payneville when they were stopped by the men at around 9pm.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says while the hijackers were not wearing police uniforms, they were travelling in a beige BMW with a blue light on the dashboard.

“They stopped the Quantum and searched the victims before one of them, who was armed with a firearm, grabbed the car keys and instructed the victims to get out of the car,” says Ramphora.

He adds the hijackers then forced the victims back inside the Quantum and drove off with them.

The victims were dropped off at around 10pm between Tsakane and Vosloorus.

A case of hijacking is being investigated.
