MEC talks to the youth in Geluksdal

Geluksdal - Young people filled the Geluksdal Stadium on Saturday during the Information Sharing and Youth Awareness Programme event, where Social Development MEC Faith Mazibuko addressed them.

The event was organised by the Geluksdal Community Task Team, and Gauteng premier David Makhura was expected to deliver the keynote address.

The premier was, however, unable to attend.

The day was aimed at providing information to young people about bursaries, internships and youth employment programmes offered by different government departments and private sectors.

One of the speakers on the day, Teboho Mafodi, is a young entrepreneur, radio Dj and a motivational speaker.

He encouraged the youth from the townships not to allow their poor backgrounds to stand in their way of success.

“I grew up in the township with big dreams and some of the people from my neighbourhood tried to discourage me from achieving them,” says Mafodi.

Addressing the young people, Mazibuko challenged them to use this opportunity to seek information about the ways which might ensure them a brighter future.

She promised that government will continue to do its best to ensure a positive change in young people’s lives.

Mazibuko encouraged the youth to take education seriously and to fight for a better tomorrow.

“Use the National Youth Development Agency offices situated in the Customer Care Centres to seek information about youth programmes,” she says.

She also encouraged the unemployed youth of Kwatsaduza to start their own small businesses in order to put food on their tables.
