Metro promises to clean illegal dumping site

KwaThema - The Ekurhuleni Metro has promised to clean the illegal dumping site located in Motsugi Street, White City Section, as soon as possible.

Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe says Waste Management Services will attend to the site.

“No dumping signs will also be placed at these hot spots as soon as possible in the new financial year in July 2015,” he says.

“Residents must contact the police to report incidents, and offenders may be fined R2 000 for dumping waste illegally.”

He says Springs Waste Management Services are responsible for the removal of all illegal dumping on council-owned land in the Springs and KwaThema areas.

Gadebe explains the service is done in-house with limited resources.

Ward councillors are requested to communicate the trend of illegal dumping to their ward members during service delivery meetings and Gadebe urged the community to take ownership of their environment.
