Lights on for Langaville Extension 10

Langaville - The long wait to receive electricity is finally over for residents of Langaville Extension 10.

A contractor is on site to install electricity to 1610 shacks in the area.

According to ward councillor Mthumeleni Nditha, the work is expected to start on Monday.

He says the project not only brings development to the area, but has also created employment for 14 community members.

Nditha says the contractor has been given a one-year contract to complete the job.

Community liaison officer for the area, Teboho Tsemo, says electricity is desperately needed in the community.

He says candles and the use of paraffin have been the cause of many shack fires, which destroyed numerous homes and belongings.

Tsemo says paraffin stoves and candles are not only dangerous, but are also expensive.

“We spend more than R500 on paraffin and candles every month,” he says.

Tsemo believes having electricity will also help residents spend less on keeping warm this winter.
