A plea for peace

Tsakane - The ANC branch executive committee of ward 84 held a meeting with foreign shop owners at Vuyani Primary School last Saturday.

The meeting was held to address the recent xenophobic attacks, and was aimed at restoring peace between foreign and local shop owners.

Foreign nationals came in numbers to express their grievances and every day challenges.

The committee represented the local shop owners.

Committee chairperson Chavier Sibiya said they do not want any more attacks in the community.

“Regardless of the causes and the grievances from South Africans, the attacks on foreign nationals cannot be justified”, says Sibiya.

Competition is the main problem highlighted by locals, who complain the foreign nationals sell goods at lower prices.

Other shop owners claim that foreign shop owners use witchcraft to lure customers.

Foreign owners claim they are not safe any more because youngsters hang around their shops waiting to rob them.

Sibiya called for the assistance of community members to stop violence from erupting in Kwatsaduza.

The meeting, however, revealed the sad truth behind the xenophobic attacks in the area.
