‘Someone else is living in my house’

Langaville - After 21 years of democracy Gogo Ntombizodwa Ndlovu (86) is still waiting for her RDP house.

Her dream is to live in her own house before she dies.

After applying for a house in 1994, it is believed Ndlovu’s housing subsidy was only approved five years ago.

She is sad because she was given her own house, but can’t live in it because it is already occupied by someone else.

The house is situated in Langaville Extension Seven, and the current resident, Thuli Mokoena, refuses to leave.

This is despite an alleged agreement made last year between Mokoena and Ndlovu’s family, that Mokoena must move out by December.

Mokoena, however, claims she was given permission to live in the house by ward 79 councillor Ivy Nkosi.

Mokoena explains she was renting a house in KwaThema when the councillor moved her to the RDP house.

The councillor allegedly explained to Mokoena that she can stay there until they locate Ndlovu.

“I have been living here for five years and I refuse to move,” says Mokoena.

“Even before the house was built, I installed electricity and built a fence around it.”

Nkosi claims they only recently found Ndlovu and explains that Mokoena moved into the house after she was evicted from the property she was renting in KwaThema.

“Although I gave her temporary residence, the idea was for her to find a place of her own as soon as the Gogo was found,” says Nkosi.

The matter has been reported to the Ekurhuleni Metro Housing Department.
