Sewage problem caused by pollution

This is according to Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Metro, and follows complaints from residents of the area.

Resident Zanele Khumalo said sewage flooded the entire yard of the hostel’s block after a manhole cover, situated in front of her house, popped open at the beginning of February.

According to Gadebe, the complaint was never reported, but metro officials attended to the matter on April 1.

An inspection of the sewer line revealed a blockage caused by foreign objects, namely paper, rags and sand.

Gadebe appealed to the community not to throw foreign objects into sewer lines, and urged residents to log their complaints directly to the Ekurhuleni Call Centre on 0860 543 0000.
