Youth organisation encourages agriculture

To encourage agriculture, the Tsakane Youth Development Programme (TYDP) is planting vegetables.

Members of the organisation and recovering drugs addicts recently participated in a one day agriculture training programme.

According to Thabo Mabena, from the TYDP, the training provided them with sufficient information about agriculture.

He said they have already planted the vegetable seeds that were given to them by their trainer.

“We have a vegetable garden at the Tsakane Old Age Home which will help feed the needy families in the township,” said Mabena.

He then explained that the organisation is planing to donate the vegetables to the needy and sell the rest to help the organisation’s members provide for their families.

Mabena also revealed that the organisation will soon work with different primary schools in Tsakane.

He said the TYDP is prepared to share its agriculture knowledge with the learners to encourage their involvement in agriculture.

Maria Shabalala, one of the residents in Tsakane said she is happy that there are organisations such as TYDP to help the young people.

She supports the organisation’s plan of working with school children to promote agriculture.

“Our children need people who will train them in agriculture so that one day they can be independent,” Shabalala said.

She believes that every child has the potential to own a business and be successful without having to be employed to achieve these goals.

Shabalala encouraged the youth to use the opportunities presented to them by different organisations which will help them have a batter future.
