Local organisation raise funds to fight drug use

To ensure that many drugs addicts get a chance to start building their brighter future, a local youth organisation raises funds to help them.

The Tsakane Youth Development Programme that has been in existence for more than two years is one of the organisations that gives support to drugs addicts to help them stop taking drugs.

Mbali Mokoena, organisation’s deputy secretary said to ensure that the organisation’s dream of creating a drug free society is fulfilled they will host a fundraising event.

On the day all vehicle and bike owners are invited to bring their cars to be washed at an affordable price.

Decent meals will also be served to help raise more funds.

Mokoena said the organisation aims to raise R100 000 in order to fulfill their dreams.

She added that the money raised at the event will help take the seven drug addicts from around Kwatsaduza to the rehab.

She said the beneficiaries qualified to be helped by the organisation after they showed willingness to quit drugs and focus on building their future.

The beneficiaries who are between the ages of 18 and 26 were selected by the organisation after realising that they needed help but could not afford to pay the fees at the rehabilitation centres.

Mokoena explained that the organisation expects the beneficiaries to come back from the rehab to join the organisation’s skills programme which will help them open their own businesses in the future.

Mzikayise Diale, one of the seven drugs addicts who will benefit from the fundraising said he is happy that the organisation is giving them a chance to change their lives for the best.

“Because I could not afford to pay for the rehab, the organisation is granting me the opportunity to change not only for me but for my family and community,” said Diale.

He concluded by encouraging the youth taking drugs to seek help from different organisations that will help them take the first step to building their tomorrow.

The fundraising event will be held on Saturday next to the Tsakane main clinic not far from the Tsakane old taxi rank from 10am.
