Fire Fighter training at Langaville

Ekurhuleni's Disaster and Emergency Services (DEMS) presented certificates to volunteers for the Fire Emergency Medical Services Programme at Langaville last Friday.

Volunteer Makhosini Ntlapho says he is very excited that he now will be of assistance to the community when a fire erupts.

Ntlapho says this programme has taught him trust, perseverance and patience.

He advises the youth of Langaville to not concentrate on their challenges, but to allow these challenges to motivate them for a brighter future.

He adds the programme has taught him discipline and he will be sharing his knowledge with other members of the public.

Spokesperson for the DEMS, William Ntladi says the aim of the project is to develop a sub section that deals with public information, education and relations which targets different communities around the area and challenges they are faced with on a daily basis.

Ntladi explains the department has moved from being reactive to being proactive in minimizing all the incidents relating to fires, and medical and trauma accidents within individual communities.

“We would like the community of Langaville to start with their own emergency teams within their community as an emergency situation can happen when it is least expected, every second counts,” he says.

In his conclusion he says they train the volunteers in a basic fire fighting awareness course, basic first aid and the basic evacuation awareness procedure including the call centre emergency numbers procedures one can follow to call effectively.
