Opportunity for youth to be part of sport academy

Young athletes will be tested in various field and track activities in the high level sport academy.

Ekurhuleni boys and girls between the ages of 14 and 16-years-old are invited to showcase their skills in athletics in order to stand a chance to be part of the Gauteng Sport Academy.

The City of Ekurhuleni has scheduled trails on Saturday at Germiston Stadium from 8am until 5pm.

During the trials various field and track activities such as 100m discuss, 200m high jump, 300m and 400m hurdles, javelin, 400m long jump, 800m, short put, 1 500m and 2 000m steeplechase and the 5 000m walk will test athletes for the high level sport academy.

The best performers stand a chance of receiving advanced sporting development in athletics for a period of three years.

“For the City of Ekurhuleni accelerating sport development is non-negotiable and we believe that identifying and nurturing talent will contribute to the development of athletics in our country, and certainly will produce the biggest names in the international space,” says Themba Gadebe, spokesman for Ekurhuleni.
